Did you know? Whitefield, a far-off sub city which is also the IT junction of Bangalore, actually has a rich heritage. I actually came across this fact very recently. Whitefield was a gesture of the Maharaja of Mysore, allocation of land for the settlement of the Anglo-Indian community in the area. It was one of the very few formally planned Anglo-Indian settlements in India, boasting of a relaxing lifestyle, colonial-style architecture, quaint bungalows, sprawling orchards and farms as well as delightfully named cottages. Celebrating that fact, a quintessential modern British pub was opened in VR mall in 2016, and a year later, I visited the place on an invite and I just loved my lunch here.
Ambience
The ambience of Whitefield Arms screams history with colonial themed wooden furniture. The outdoor seating here is perfect for catching up with friends on a good weather day, which is most days in Bangalore. The little details have been taken care of as per the theme. Even the menu is themed.
Drinks
Whitefield Arms has a good menu collection of Whiskys and beers. (Wine not so much). I hear they are opening up a brewery as well, but it wasn’t functional when I visited the place.
Appetizers
I would apologise to my vegetarian friends for not having any vegetarian food recommendations for you.
As for non-vegetarians, you have to try the Dak Bungalow Quack. It’s a duck tartlet with plum and soy sauce and frizzled onions. The tart is perfect, not too thick and good crisp. The duck was delicious in the plum and soy sauce and onions add a great zing to it.
Cavalry’s special chicken was nicely marinated and very delicious. Grilled prawns were a miss for me though.
Main Course
We tried main course right out of the new menu. Railway Mutton curry was delicious. Served with rice and chips, railway mutton curry is slightly spicy and a great flavourful main course meal. I loved the spice-crusted chicken with mushroom rice in mint and onion sauces. I would highly recommend this amazing delectable dish.
Desserts
I loved the sticky toffee pudding. The cake was rich and the sauce was delicious.
The Bavarian cheesecake was a miss for me. The cheesecake was beautifully baked but the mango puree ruined the experience for me.
Executive Chef Bharathan is a perfectionist and I loved what he created here. I loved the dining experience at Whitefield arms. The Ambiance, the food and now with the upcoming brewery, it’s a great place to hang out with friends.
