Healthy and taste can go hand in hand!
I have never been pro healthy food. Primarily because I never thought that healthy food can be tasty as well. In my opinion, the taste was always a compromise for healthy food. But I was so happy to be proved wrong on my visit to Fresh pressery cafe recently.
I loved the concept of this cafe. By retaining the same recipe and substituting the ingredients with the healthier versions, the food is something that we can really appreciate. Slightly higher cost of the dishes is primarily due to the higher cost of healthier substitutes, which is fair.
Let’s make an exception to this review and start with the desserts first. If you’re on a diet, this is what you want on your cheat day. If you are like me, totally made of fat and feel just a tad bit guilty about the unhealthy diet, you have to give this a shot. The dark chocolate quinoa cake here is 99% gluten-free, made with coconut milk, quinoa and honey is just something you shouldn’t miss. If I didn’t tell you, you wouldn’t know that you are being fed something that doesn’t have sugar or is gluten free.
Amongst the breakfast options, I was completely blown away by the chia seed pudding here. Despite having coconut milk, the coconut taste wasn’t overpowering at all. And the pudding was so light and yet filled with flavour. Banana berry smoothie bowl is another good option for a one bowl breakfast.
The Mediterranean crostini platter had bruschetta and avocado on toast both are pretty tasty and healthy starters. Arabic platter, being another interesting appetizer, is bread served with red pepper hummus and dill and greek yoghurt dip. I found the bread a little dry, but the dips were very delectable. Both are very delicious starters.
I am not fond of salads at all, but I liked a few components of this grilled figs and arugula salad. It had blue cheese and caramelized walnuts. The taste of grilled figs and caramelized walnut was the highlight as the blue cheese did not overpower at all.
They even serve their sandwiches with a little salad on the side. I loved the avocado and chicken sandwich. Paneer sriracha sandwich is another delicious option for vegetarians. Both the sandwiches were light on flavours and quite satisfying.
I loved the aglio olio here. It’s my favourite kind of pasta in general, and with the in-house prepared sun-dried tomatoes and just the perfect amount of oil, it is a great main course here. The healthy quinoa bowl had quinoa, salsa, avocado, kidney beans, chickpea all mixed in a single bowl. Lot of health food in one bowl.
Verdict
I have described too many things, but the bottom line is that fresh pressery has done a great job in retaining the flavour while substituting healthier ingredients to the food, and if you feel like a cleanse, you know where to go.
